In this role, you will manage, evaluate, supervise and review all litigation claims.  The key components of this job are ensuring prompt and courteous handling of claims is provided to policyholders and claimants.  Places special emphasis on complying with established claim and litigation guidelines.  Assist with special projects in other areas of claims as needed.

 

Some of what you will be doing on a daily basis:  


1.    Management & Training

Supervises individuals responsible for handling the ligation claim files. Develops and delivers training plans specific to the needs of the individuals or team as a unit. Continuously monitors and adjusts the training program to meet the needs of the associates. Will also be responsible for other projects or duties as assigned.
 
2.    Claim Handling

Directs and provides guidance to the associates to determine and develop the needed investigations and strategies that are essential to handling litigation claims. Monitors and continues to evaluate claims, making recommendations for further task assignments to ensure proper final claim disposition. Delegates authority to associates as warranted by their expertise and experience. Ensures that the files are handled according to the appropriate guidelines. Motivates and leads the unit to attain best in class quality work.

 

3.    Suit Handling

Directs and provides guidance to the associates to review, analyze and develop an initial strategy when a summons and complaint is received. Advise associate on direction to defense counsel as well as working with counsel to continuously develop and refine strategy as information Is received. Monitor defense counsel to ensure the file reaches its final conclusion. Assist associate in reviewing and auditing legal bills according to guidelines. Promote a positive and efficient working relationship between associates and the panel of defense counsel.

 

4.    Diary and File Review

Maintains a current diary on all claims with exposure over authority of claim representative or otherwise requiring ongoing supervision to ensure timely and accurate reserving. Conducts periodic "spot checks" of claim files not being followed on regular diary.

 

5.    Reserves

Review the recommended reserves submitted by associates based upon the investigation and analysis and ensure that the reserves are timely and adequate. Often a captioned report should accompany the reserve request that details the claim the methodology for which the recommendation is based.

6.  Claim Resolution

Evaluates claim investigative material and provides sufficient information for the negotiation of prompt and equitable settlements.  Responsible for staying current on legal trends that affect claim handling in the state of Florida.
 
7.   Reporting  
      Provides detailed captioned reports for management review on major losses.  Consistent follow-up with independents and    defense counsel as needed. Ensures files are fully documented and able to  support the claim decision.

Must haves:

  • Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of 7 years P&C (Property & Casualty) claims handling experience. Supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years' experience in Litigation. 
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a resident Florida License.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Insurance certificates, courses, or professional designations a plus. 
  • Guidewire Experience preferred.
